This apartment is located in the center of the city of Parma and has a splendid view of the adjacent ancient church and the historical center. The renovation project starts from these premises, aiming at the enhancement of the external views and at the recovery of portions of the existing materials combined with a modern and innovative design.
The original layout of the apartment has been unhinged to configure on the one side a large living/dining area with an open kitchen and on the other a more private area with the bedroom and bathroom. The separation of spaces is obtained through an iron full-height door, which slides in a cross-shaped direction, separating the entrance, living and private areas. The whole space is held together by a continuous floor in grey micro-cement and interrupted by some zones in which original floor in “cementine” tiles has been maintained. The industrial style details and the hardness of the concrete of the load-bearing structure left exposed contrast with the old wooden and glass doors.
In the bathroom, the collage of existing tiles and new flooring enhances the 70's ceramic cladding and serves as the background for the copper pipes left exposed.
